Story time: I was working on an important projects recently, and during the cleanup and maintenance removed some important files.
Normally it would be a complete disaster, but since few years I have a very tight back-up procedure: Time Machine.
What it does, every hour, day, week, and month, creates an iterative snapshot of changes: 
Going back in time, and recovering my deleted files was easy. Only because sometime in the past I made an informed decision, and enabled that feature.
