On overabundance of choices

When I look at some markets today, I see a surprising trend emerging. Choice, there is so much choice, it drains the funds of the manufacturers and paralyzes the buyers.

When you are in the market for a smartphone these days, you will be facing a gargantuan selection of at least 10 large manufacturers, each offering at least 3 different models of their products, each with specific variants, customizations, colors, and so on.

Having a freedom of choice is great, but when faced with too many options, it’s easy to question one’s motivations.

I remember the times, when there were limited choices: a flagship device, a medium-tier one, and the budget option. These were the easier times. And by coincidence, also the times when I was not obsessing about the newest, or the greatest.
